Students at the Catholic University of Applied Sciences studying abroad

Intercultural skills, language proficiency and experiences abroad have gained increasing importance in the fields of social work, health care and theology. An internship or an exchange semester abroad can broaden disciplinary and personal horizons and can improve your chances on the job market and your prospects for career advancement.

We offer students support in all phases of their stay abroad, from planning to living in a foreign country.

The modular structure of our degree programmes and the use of the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) facilitates the international transfer of academic work. In accordance with the principles of the Lisbon Recognition Convention, the Catholic University of Applied Sciences accepts all academic credit earned abroad.

The International Office regularly holds informational events at each of the campuses. It also offers individual advising by appointment.

Semester abroad

Spending a semester abroad is a unique way to gain intercultural understanding, experience life at another university and expand knowledge in your field.

We offer students a strong network of over 60 partner universities for exchanges abroad. Students can also arrange exchanges at universities outside our official partner network.

We have various programmes for funding your exchange abroad:

  • Erasmus for stays in EU member states as well as in North Macedonia, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Turkey and Serbia
  • PROMOS for international stays (outside Erasmus countries and within Europe at universities without an Erasmus agreement)
  • LinCA language course stipends to foster language skills for stays abroad

Internships abroad

The close relationship of theory and practice is an essential pillar of the Catholic University of Applied Sciences. Internships abroad support our principle of applied learning.

All our students have the chance to complete internships abroad, whether as part of a degree requirement or as an elective. Internships help students understand their field in practice. But they also allow them to collect work experience in an international setting, gain important skills such as the ability to cooperate and communicate, and collect deeper understanding of the host country.

Finding the right placement abroad is often the most time-consuming part of preparation. Our advising and our database of internships abroad can help your search.

We have various programmes for funding your internships abroad:

  • Erasmus for placements in EU member states as well as in North Macedonia, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Turkey and Serbia
  • PROMOS for international stays (outside Erasmus countries)
  • Engagement Global for development policy internships in the Global South
  • LinCA language course stipends to foster language skills for stays abroad
